Every September, National REALTOR® Safety Month calls attention to the risks real estate professionals may encounter and the everyday practices that can help them stay safer.
Real estate is a people-centered business, but much of the work happens independently. Agents regularly meet new people, travel between appointments, enter vacant properties, host open houses, and work outside of the traditional office environment. While these responsibilities are part of serving customers well, they can also create situations that require added awareness and preparation.
At Watson Realty Corp., we believe safety should be part of how real estate professionals conduct business every day, not something considered only after a situation becomes uncomfortable.
Watson agents spend their days guiding customers through some of life's biggest decisions. They answer questions, solve problems, and help customers navigate the home-buying and home-selling process with confidence.
Supporting those agents means providing more than training and marketing resources. We're endowed with helping equip them with resources that support their well-being while they are working in the field.
From showing homes to open houses, agents should know they have access to additional support.
Watson Realty Corp. recently partnered with Bond to give Watson agents free access to a new preventative personal security resource.
Bond is a preventative personal security platform designed to offer professional support when someone is traveling, meeting a new person, entering an unfamiliar location, or otherwise working independently. The platform combines technology with access to trained security professionals who are available around the clock.
The partnership makes Bond available to Watson agents at no cost, adding another meaningful resource to the tools and support they receive as members of the Watson team.
HousingWire recently explored the partnership and the evolving security needs of real estate professionals in "Tech-Driven Protection Gains Steam Ahead of REALTOR® Safety Month."
Bond is intended to provide an additional layer of support. It does not replace situational awareness, good judgment, established safety practices, or emergency services. Instead, it gives agents another proactive resource they can use when something does not feel right or when they simply want additional support at the ready.
Not every uncomfortable situation is immediately an emergency. Sometimes, an agent may want someone to monitor a trip, check in during an appointment, or remain available while they are at an unfamiliar property.
Bond offers preventative personal security and peace of mind services that can be activated before a situation escalates. Depending on the circumstances, agents can use the platform for security check-ins, location-based trip monitoring, live video support, and access to trained personal security agents.
For example, an agent traveling alone can use location-based monitoring while moving between appointments. An agent meeting someone for the first time can arrange a security check-in. If something feels off, the agent can connect with a trained professional through the platform for additional support.
These tools are designed to complement the planning and awareness agents already bring to their work. Technology cannot eliminate every risk, but it can help agents feel better supported as they go about their day.
REALTOR® Safety Month is an important reminder to review personal habits, office procedures, and available resources. It is also an opportunity to make safety a more open and ongoing conversation.
Agents should feel comfortable discussing safety concerns with their brokers, colleagues, and family members. Sharing appointment details, establishing check-in procedures, meeting new customers in public locations when possible, identifying exits, and trusting personal instincts can all contribute to safer working habits.
Planning ahead matters. The best time to think through a safety procedure is before an agent needs it, not once a situation has already become concerning.
Watson's partnership with Bond reflects our larger commitment to providing agents with resources that support both their careers and their well-being. We want agents to have the tools they need to serve customers confidently while knowing they do not have to navigate every situation completely on their own.
Although September brings increased attention to agent safety, the responsibility does not end when REALTOR® Safety Month is over. Awareness, communication, and preparation should remain part of everyday business throughout the year.
Watson Realty Corp. will continue encouraging agents to review their habits, use the resources available to them, and make personal safety a priority wherever their work takes them.
